Geocache Description:

Welcome to Gamle Trondheimsveien 1762 – 1770

This road was constructed from 1762 to 1770. When finished this was one of the main roads in and out of Oslo. There was a lot of traffic on this road. Imagine this road being used by people, animals and horse carriages summer and winter. This road is steep and narrow and almost completely without ditches. This resulted in water running in the road rater than beside the road when it was raining and in the spring when the snow was melting. In the winter large sections of ice was built up by the same water making it very difficult for horse and carriage to get up and down this hill. Close to the top on the south side there are still some traces after a water hole used for horses and people after a hard trip up the hill. A remaining piece of this road still runs from Skillebekk til Lahaugmoen. The cache is placed close to an intersection where Gamle Trondheimsveien meets another road that goes to Oldtidsveien, Gullhaug and Fjellhamar. NOTE to first finder: There is a FTFC there for you!
