This
cache can be approached from St Mary’s Bay or
Littlestone-on-sea.
This is a great area for all the
family and can be done all year round without getting
muddy.
A bit of
history
Look out for
an oblong of concrete visible at low tide just
off the coast. During World War II about 250 of these huge hollow
reinforced concrete blocks, called "Phoenix caissons", were
constructed and filled with compressed air. Some were stored in the
East Bay, off Littlestone. After D-Day they were floated across the
Channel to Normandy. Here they combined to form a large harbour
(Mulberry Harbour) where supplies could be brought ashore for
Allied troops. This block never made it to France.
Please be aware of
muggles when retrieving and replacing
the cache.
