Alhambra Urban Micro East (AUM-EAST) Whoa! Deja-Vu all over again! Here is another quick and easy “Urban MicroCache”. Quick and easy means that there is no need to hike to the cache site, but you can if you like. Sound familiar?
Alhambra has a rich and glorious history dating back to the early San Gabriel Mission days of the late 1700’s. Geocaching was in its infancy… folk sitting around awaiting technology to catch up with “hide and seek”. Such figures as Don Benito Wilson, James de Barth Shorb and George Patton are just a few of the famous people who called the environs around Alhambra their home.
Washington Irving’s book, “Alhambra”, filled with the legends of the Moorish palace in Spain, was the inspiration for the City’s name. Granada, Vega, Almansor and Boabdil are a few of the street names chosen by Wilson that reflect the romance of Irving’s tales. Boabdil however, proved difficult for the early residents to pronounce, so it was renamed “Main Street”.
So, start your search with a burger at good ol’ Boabdil & Granada, or Boabdil & Vega if you like. Or even Alhambra Road and Almansor! (look for the house from “Father of the Bride” if you do). Being a Micro, this cache is not magnetic. The urban canyons of Alhambra likely will dictate your GPS coverage. The cache location does have a clear view of the GPS satellite constellation. Try “Alhambra Urban Micro Eight-Oh” for more of the same fun. Good luck and enjoy!
