Geocache Description:

It's amazing how many of us in the Los Angeles area haven't gotten to the Getty Museum yet. I was among the uninitiated until this week... but now I've got a message for you: stop feeling guilty about it and and get up there! Why? Because it's a beautiful spot... and because we just placed a cache!!

I have to admit: I secretly believed I was the last person in Southern California not to have gotten to the Getty... but a field trip with Tom's fourth grade class changed all that. When I admitted to the others on the trip that this was my first visit, I was surprised to discover that none of the other adults with us had been there either. Turns out there are still plenty of people who haven't visited, which is too bad...

Because the place is pretty cool. The kids and I especially enjoyed the gardens; there are more than 10,000 trees, 8,000 native oaks, 300 cacti, 400 azaleas... and the central garden alone is a staggering 134,000 square feet! Lots of room to run around, needless to say, and the staff seem very relaxed about people walking off the paths, sticking their hands in the water, etc.

But you won't have to leave the path for this Virtual. In fact... the virtual is PART of the path. Find your way to the coordinates and you'll find a quote from the garden's creator, the artist Robert Irwin. Email us the quote in order to get credit for the find...

Or don't. Who cares? Perhaps an afternoon walking around the Getty grounds will actually take your mind off of caching. Probably not. But maybe. Either way, we bet you'll have a great time.

You can find information on the Getty at their website:

Enjoy! And by the way: there are some nice paintings and stuff if you bother to go inside!
