Where the birds soar Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SoCalAdmin: Greetings from Geocaching.com
It looks like your cache has been temporarily disabled for a while now and is still under the weather.

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If you wish to repair this cache and have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Having caches marked as “temporally disabled” for extended periods of time is very irritating to local cachers because these caches will still show up on their TO-DO cache lists.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the near future.

Thanks for your understanding,

SoCalAdmin

Geocache Description:

The cache is located on a ridge about 300 feet in elevation above the 110 freeway. It is approachable on paths from multiple directions and depending on your approach and how steep a hill you can climb. The park is closed after dark.

Located on a ridge in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, this cache offers spectacular views of downtown and Dodger's Stadium to the southwest and the San Gabriel Mountains to the north, as well as the Southwest Museum across the freeway in Mt. Washington and the Arroyo Seco below. From the cache you have a bird's eye view of the new Audubon Center at the bottom of the hill. The Audubon center recently won an award as the most "green" new building in the west. It is off the power and sewer grids, making all its own solar heat, cooling, electricity, and recycling waste water to it's native plants garden. (visit link) Your hike will be between 1/4 mile (if approaching up the steep hill from the west) and 1 mile (if from the east) each way. The park's "official" entrance is on the east side off Monterey. However there is now also an entrance on the west side on Griffin (Ave. 52 exit off the 110 fwy) at the Audubon Center. Either park on Griffin by the Audubon gates or up the hill in the parking lot.Deb's park is home to over 100 species of birds and it is common to see Red Tailed Hawks and crows soaring at this location looking for prey. On your way to the cache, see how many different birds you can spot and be sure to enter them in the cache log.The number of birds in the park is one of the reasons why the Audubon Society opened a nature center at the bottom of the hill just to the southwest of the cache. Look down the hill and you will have a bird's eye view of the building and gardens. (visit link) Deb's park is over 300 acres in size, with over 200 acres left undeveloped and there is a lot of wildlife. Since your hike to this cache may be short, take some extra time to explore more of this diamond in the rough of northeast LA and enjoy it's many vistas. You may want to find "Stumped on a Hill" which will take you further into the park.
