Poetry Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

ffej: Although this cache was in Monrovia Park it was by a waterfall and not near any vegetation (including poison oak) as noted below. However, I appreciate the fervor in protecting the park. Jeff

Geocache Description:

The Poetry Cache is the phoenix that has arisen from last year's fires that thoroughly singed our previous site - the Glendora Mountain Road Cache. Tired of going to caches filled of McDonald's Happy Meal Toys? Well we were too. This one is entirely dedicated to poetry. Here's how it works: leave that trinket at home and instead print out and 3-hole punch your favorite poem(s) and/or a poem of your own to share with fellow geocachers. Sorry, you only get to take home the experience. You will also have a chance to leave some of your poetic "inspirations" as part of a collaborative poem that all can contribute to in lieu of signing the traditional logbook. Be wild. Be creative. Be inspired. Just don't be left out!

The first part of the 1.75-mile hike to the cache is well paved and well "inclined," but if you persevere to the dam (about half a mile from the trail head), you will be rewarded with better views and better grade. All told there is about a 650-foot elevation gain from the park entrance.

IMPORTANT: The trailhead is located in Monrovia Canyon Park, which is closed on Tuesdays; this particular trail is also closed on Wednesdays, so keep that in mind. The park closes daily at 5PM and there is also a $2 parking fee. However, if you park on the street in the residential area near the entrance you don't have to pay or worry about the gates being locked on the way out, though it will add a half-mile to your hike.
