Great Western Bank Foreign Exchange Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

DeadReckoner: Alas, I think the time has come to let this one go. It's been a great run over many years. But between work and other stuff, I'm just not able to do it justice. So time to let someone else step in and place a cache nearby. Thanks to everyone who has visited and swapped a foreign coin at the exchange!

Geocache Description:

This cache is a large magnetic hide-a-key hidden in a rather public civic center plaza in downtown LA. Some subtlety may be required in retrieving it without looking too conspicuous. Rest assured that it can easily be retrieved by standing comfortably in normal pedestrian areas, and without resorting to traipsing into the landscaping, climbing on statuary, or wading through fountains (though I hope you'll enjoy looking at all of that as you explore the area).

Trading rules: Logging a "find" for this cache REQUIRES a trade. This cache contains foreign coins from several different countries. You may trade one or more cache items, but any items traded must be from different countries, and the item you put into the cache must be from a country not currently represented in the cache. Items may be from any country past or present EXCEPT the US -- US currency is not accepted here! Feel free to make any foreign exchange rate you like (e.g., trade a British penny for a Canadian 2 dollar coin), so long as the above rules are adhered to. (For this game, Europe counts as a "country" distinct from any of its constituent nations: i.e., you may trade francs or marks for euros.) Please clearly log on the website what you've traded, so that future finders might know what's available to trade. Anyone finding the cache but not trading may log a "note", but may not log a "find".

The initial contents of the cache are:

  • Irish 5 pence
  • Canadian 5 cents
  • Swedish 1 kroner

Bring your own pencil/pen.

Several sequential hints are offered in increasing order of specificity / spoiler.

This cache also serves as a satellite for the Geo-Stationery Cache, so you may wish to read that description before visiting here, to save yourself having to come back again.
