Here are the three "satellite" caches that you must visit:
In each of these micro caches, you must look in the inside bottom of the hide-a-key where you will find a notation indicating a specific number of meters. That is the distance between the posted coordinates of that cache and the true coordinates of this cache. (Note: each of the satellites are independent caches, which you may also log, provided you haven't logged them already and that you conform to each cache's posted trading rules.) You can visit the satellites in any order, but you will need to visit all three in order to determine the true location uniquely. (Remember, one quadratic equation will give you two answers!) (Update Dec 2011: a couple of the satellites have been archived, but I have added a note in their log with the reading that you need.)
The cache is a square tupperware container, approximately 7"x7"x2.5". It is very well concealed. This is necessary, as the cache is likely to be vandalized if not well concealed. Please re-hide it as well as it was originally hidden. No special extraction tools are required, and you need not do any violence to the flora and fauna in order to get it. No bush-whacking is required. There are a couple of clear though overgrown trails that will get you where you need to be. Keep your eyes open for poison oak. I didn't see any near the cache, but I have seen one plant unfortunately close to one of the trails. A red-tailed hawk swooped breathtakingly close to me this morning as I was doing the final check on the cache before posting. With luck, you'll get a good look at one of these majestic birds during your search. A few hints, in order of increasing specificity, will direct you to the hiding spot (however, they will only help you once you're in the right vicinity, they will NOT do the triangulation work for you).
Trading rules: Logging a "find" for this cache REQUIRES a trade. This cache contains a collection of postcards and notecards from various places. You must trade a postcard for a different postcard, ideally leaving a postcard of a different place or subject than the postcards already in the cache. If possible, please upload an image of your postcard in your web log. If you visit the cache and do not wish to trade, you may log a "note", but you may not log a "find".
The initial contents of the cache are postcards from San Francisco, Washington DC, "Boston at night" (the card is solid black), Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood (the sign), and Los Angeles (one of those miraculously clear photos of downtown skyline with snow-capped Mt. Baldy in background). There are also a couple of scenic notecards. There is a pencil and logbook. Finally, there is a pre-addressed and stamped postcard (of a Lufthansa 747 jet) to certify the FTF: if you are the first to find, please write me a note and drop it in the mail.
