NY 22 Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

xydexx_squeakypony: It's been a fun three years at this location, but I'm not going to have an adequate base of operations in New York to work out of (my Mom moved last year and my Dad is planning to), so I took the opportunity to remove the cache. I will be restocking it and relocating it to Virginia.

Big thanks to everyone who hiked/biked the mile or so out to get the cache! It really is a beautiful area and just crawling with deer---we saw six of them. If someone else wants to place a cache here, go for it. It's a prime spot!

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden along the North County Trailway. Mostly flat, you can walk/bike most of the way (1.49 miles from parking). The cache location cannot be seen from the path.

Recommended parking at the Park And Ride lot at N 41º 04.947', W073º 49.833'. You will be about 1.49 miles away from the cache. You can either walk or ride a bike most of the way, but be aware the cache is off the trail a (non-bike-compatible) short distance.

This bike path was built on the bed of the former New York Central Putnam Division. The tracks were torn up back in 1963. When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike on the "cinder trails" before this was turned into a paved bike path. You can still see traces of the old railroad along the path, especially when you get close to the cache. There are also a lot of deer in the area, and if you look carefully you may see some in the woods. (They usually come down the mountain to drink at the Saw Mill River and graze along the parkway at sunset.)

I placed this cache with the help of my ever-faithful assistant Rigelkitty, who patiently sat and got nibbled on by mosquitoes while I was trying to verify GPS coordinates.

Anyway... the cache container is a standard .30 cal ammo box, the original contents include:
  • Unicorn flag
  • Glove compartment road atlas
  • Marla Glen CD
  • Magnetic poetry kit
  • Metal D&D figurines (2)
  • Inchworm Ty Beanie Baby
  • Timon bobblehead
  • Buzz Lightyear bobblehead
  • Winnie The Pooh bobblehead
  • Pink Panther Travel Bug (Not mine. I picked him up in VA and this was the first chance I had to send him on his way.)
There is a disposable camera in the cache, feel free to take a picture of you/your merry cache-hunting gang when you find the cache.

As always, please rehide the cache as well or better than you found it. Thanks for visiting!
