1000 MIGLIA – Quando passa Nuvolari

Passo della Futa. L’automobilismo è uno degli sport più seguiti dagli italiani e la Mille Miglia è stata la corsa che dal 1927 al 1957 ha infiammato la passione degli sportivi, con le sue storie e le sue gesta epiche. La corsa si svolgeva su strade normali partendo da Brescia, toccando Roma via Firenze e Bologna e ritornando a Brescia. Il passo della Futa era l’ultima fatica prima di avventarsi verso la Pianura Padana ed il traguardo di Brescia. Il più grande pilota che l’Italia abbia avuto per capacità e coraggio è stato Tazio Nuvolari che ha vinto questa corsa per 2 volte. Memorabile rimarrà sempre la vittoria del 1930 quando inseguiva Varzi e, per non farsi individuare da lui, percorse gli ultimi chilometri a fari spenti; ma quando fu alle sue spalle li riaccese, lo sorpassò e vinse.
Come canta Lucio Dalla, nella sua famosa canzone Nuvolari:
“quando passa Nuvolari - la gente aspetta - il suo arrivo - per ore e ore - e finalmente quando - sente il rumore - salta in piedi e lo saluta con la mano - gli grida - parole d'amore”.
Tra quelli che salivano al Passo della Futa c’erano mio nonno e il mio prozio che se la facevano a piedi da Borgo San Lorenzo e aspettavano ore per veder passare in un attimo due fari sciabolanti nel buio e udire il rombo che si perdeva per i tornanti dell’Appennino. Altri tempi, altre storie.
Futa Pass. Car Racing is one of the italian favourite sports and the “Mille Miglia” (Thousand Miles) has been the race that, from 1927 to 1957, has fired the italian sport fans, with its stories and its epic exploits. The race runned on normal roads starting from Brescia, touching Rome via Florence and Bologna and coming back to Brescia. The Futa Pass was the last effort before to run down to the Pianura Padana and the final goal of Brescia. The greatest italian driver for talent and fearless has been Tazio Nuvolari who won twice this race. Unfogettable will forever remain the victory of 1930 when Nuvolari was following Varzi and, to don’t let be seen by him, Nuvolari turned off the lights and runned the last miles in the darkness, when he reached Varzi, turned on again the lights, overtook Varzi and won!
As Lucio Dalla sings in his song “Nuvolari”:
“when passes Nuvolari – people waits – his coming – for hours and hours – and at last when – hears the noise – stands up and waved him – shouts him – words of love”.
Among people climbing Futa Pass there were my grandfather and my great-uncle who came on foot from Borgo San Lorenzo, and waited for hours to see the passage of two lighs clearing in a moment the darkness, and hear the roar vanishing down the curves of Appennines. Other times, other stories.
