Geocache Description:

Old SideTracked - Witney Junction

Witney Station

Witney Junction is on the old Fairford Branch Line which goes from Yarnton junction to Fairford.
The junction splits to the right into Witney goods yard, which was the old station,
and to the left to the new station pictured above.
Does anyone remember the night club called "The Sidings"?

Martin Loader, has a great website which describes this branch line in great detail.

Witney station doesn't exist anymore but the two bridges are in fairly good condition.
The main bridge at the juction is fenced off, but there
is a stile to the right which takes you down to the river Windrush and underneath the bridge.
Being made of iron it's great for magnatised caches.

Park at Sainsbury's and take the footpath which leads you into the Witney Lake and Meadow Country Park.
If you follow it through under the A40 it leads you to another series of caches.

If you look towards Witney from the junction you can see St Mary's church.
Check the link for old photos from the same spot.

Check it out on "Old SideTracked".
Much harder now, not for the faint hearted.
