Geocache Description:

To get to the cache you first pass the Cape Martin Lighthouse, if you continue to the viewing platform once you have found the cache Penguin Island and the remains of Rivoli Bay's first lighthouse can be seen. Update - I have since had a virtual cache published for the platform locality.

Penguin Island Lighthouse was built in 1878 and came into operation on the night of October 1, 1878. It was manned by two lightkeepers and continued as a manned lighthouse until April 1918. It continued to shine out from Penguin Island as an automatic light until 1960 when the decision to replace it was made and Cape Martin lighthouse was built. The lighthouse tower stills stands on Penguin Island to this day, a tribute to the workmanship of the builders in 1878.

The cache is a small sistema painted black and hidden close to the path. There is no need to cause damage to the surrounds to locate the cache. The contents include a logbook and pencil.

The path between the carpark and Cape Martin Lighthouse is a bit steep but has steps in the steepest parts. An easier path can be found from the end of McArthur Place. Watch out for inch ants, I saw a few on the path when  placing the cache. The location is fairly well hidden from any onlookers except for any that might happen to arrive at Cape Martin Lighthouse when you are searching for the cache.
