Big Red Virtual Cache

If you are like me and everytime you have visited Kalbarri and looked at 'The Big Red Hill" north of town and thought "I'd like to climb that", well now here is your chance. Big Red as the locals call it used to once be the source of all the red rocks used in various building around the township of Kalbarri - Finlay's BBQ, Rainbow Jungle, Gilgai Tavern to name a few. The local shire has now banned the removal of rocks from the area.Big Red is in the area north of Kalbarri known as Paradise Flat and you can drive right to the top of the hill, however the track is badly rutted and it is better to enjoy the walk, not suitable for high heels.Take River Rd north of Kalbarri and you will need a 4X4 to reach the base of the hill. To claim this cache, you must post a photograph of yourself with the rock cairn in the background, and also answer (in email to me) the number of the Standard Survey Marker in front of the cairn. Enjoy the climb and look out for the wild goats and the albino kangaroos we saw on the climb.
