Geocache Description:

This is a NIGHTTIME ONLY cache that isn't even remotely like any other night cache you've ever done. The technology on this cache won't work during daylight, so there's not much point in even trying. Besides, it wouldn't be as much fun!

What to bring:
  • GPS
  • Flashlight to navigate
  • OPTIONAL: Any TV remote (in case the remote isn't in the first waypoint)

IMPORTANT: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS CACHE

It's been quite a while since the Tacoma area has had a night cache. This cache does not use Fire Tacks or reflective glints to show you the way. In fact, the only use for a flashlight is to help keep you from running in to things. Instead, this cache uses infrared receivers that activate LED lights to help you find coords for the next waypoint.

Accessed from 74th and Cedar, the posted coords will take you to the first waypoint, which is an easy to find container that holds an infra-red remote control and coords for the second waypoint. To help find the first waypoint, a small reflecter marks the spot it's hidden at.

A vehicle gate blocks a road into this undeveloped park land, but there are no pedestrian restrictions. Each waypoint will take you to a small clearing. A small reflective glint marks ground zero where you will need to rotate slowly while pushing the button on the remote for 2-3 seconds at a time. If you are using your own remote, any button you choose should work. When you are aiming in the right direction, the remote will activate a blinking green LED placed nearby, about 20 feet away. The LED won't blink until the remote is pointed at it and the button is pushed. Get as close as possible to "ground zero" to be in the right spot to activate it, but don't worry, it will work from 25-30 feet away. You will find the coords for the next waypoint posted on a small metal plaque a few feet below the LED.

At the fifth and final waypoint, find a larger white reflector to aim the remote at. You'll need to be within 3-4 feet or less for this one. A laser beam will point you to the location of the cache. Just look for the red dot on a distant object, where you will find the cache hidden. The parking lot is just down the hill from the final.

Stay on the established trails. If you find yourself bushwhacking, you are lost and need to go back to the trail. There are houses in the area, so try to muffle any frightened screams. PLEASE REPLACE THE REMOTE ON YOUR WAY OUT. IT'S THE ONLY ONE!

Since this is a battery dependent cache, please try to conserve battery power whenever possible. Email me if any of the batteries seem to be getting low.
