Geocache Description:

May 5th is "I Love My Parks Day"! Come on out and do a little CITO to help show how much you appreciate our state and local parks!



May 5th is "I Love My Parks Day"! Come on out and do a little CITO tohelp show how much you appreciate our state and local parks!


We will be meeting at 10am at Parking lot 2 of FDR State Park. This is at the main entrance off of the Taconic Parkway. A parks representative will meet us and give us our assignment. Look for us at the "Lower Hudson Geocachers" Banner!

The Parks Dept. has two goals for the day:
• Pick up discarded trash around many areas of the Park. Bags and safety vests will be provided.
• Remove some invasive plants that are disrupting the natural vegetation, i.e. Barberry, Multi-flora Rose and Japanese Stilt Grass

All Community Groups and Individuals Welcome (Our group is registered, no need to fill out an individual registration online.)
Bring your gloves and maybe a water bottle. Refreshments will be available for everyone.
(Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian, and a permission slip must be filled out. Permission slips will be available that day)

Various groups will be participating in cleanup activities from 10am-2pm. We are scheduled to help from 10am-noon. You are not required to stay that whole time, but we ask that you give us at least an hour of your time to qualify for the smiley! Then take off to enjoy the many many other aspects of the "I Love My Parks Day" Festivities!

In addition to our CITO, there will be tons of activities all throughout FDR Park, as well as the other parks in Yorktown. We will be creating a geo-circuit which will take you to several of Yorktown's Parks, and there will be prizes for completing the whole circuit! A "Geocaching 101" seminar will also be taking place, so bring your Newbie friends!

Have strange, bizarre friends or spouses who don't care for geocaching? (Inconceivable!!!) There will be several guided hikes through the Yorktown Parks, as well as a "Quest" and lots of other activities to keep non-cachers busy too.
