Geocache Description:

This cache celebrates the joining of two great Los Angeles museums: the (Autry) Museum of the American West, and the Southwest Museum.

Not long ago last year the Autry Museum agreed to join with and, in effect, buy the Southwest Museum. I am placing a cache in the open, park-like space near each museum to celebrate and draw attention to this fact.

One can reach this cache by parking on the street below (Museum Drive and Marmion way), and walking uphill, taking the Hopi trail (clearly marked), to find the cache hidden under pine needles on a hill with a view.
One can also drive uphill to the museum parking lot, and one does not have to enter the museum; just walk around to the right of the building, into the "backyard" of the museum, where the demonstration gardens are, and find the cache under a tall pine tree on a slope. I would recommend spending some time inside the museum as well, as it is a beautiful collection.

The joining of the museums will be a good thing, we all hope; I am a volunteer at the Southwest and I know their severe money troubles as of late. It's a beautiful location, and architecturally a significant building.

Now, I have placed some very nice handmade souvenir cards in the cache. They are micro-etched and patina'd brass, in dyed paper holders. There are five of them, for five visitors. Post a picture if you like.
