NOTICE: This geocache will be archived and removed in early October 2020 to make room for some new geocaches to be published soon.
This cache was launched at the 2019 Purple Loosestrife Removal Event GC865GR. It is one of the four geocaches placed for that event. The Crosswinds Cache Crew collaborated with the River Raisin Institute help to remove Purple Loosestrife, a deceitfully beautiful invasive species, to better allow the native plants to flourish.
The Arrival of Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is native to Europe and Asia. The species was unintentionally introduced to the United States’ Great Lakes through contaminated solid cargo ship ballast used for stability on the ocean as well as through the deliberate importation of seeds by settlers for their flower gardens. The first discovery in the United States was in Lake Ontario in 1869. Purple loosestrife was sold and planted for decades as a decorative ornamental plant. However, due to its negative impacts on native plants and their ability to escape from cultivation, purple loosestrife is illegal to sell in most states.
The Cache: The cache is a regular sized lock & lock hidden just off the Horse Trail.
