The next set of caches along the South County Trail. Trying to continue on with H2"O"s great work on the North County Trail. A short walk on the paved trail from the parking location. Bring your own pen.
The South County Trailway is a 14.1-mile (22.7 km) long trail stretching from Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx to Elmsford in Westchester, NY. Construction started in the 1990s and was completed in 2011. Most sections of the trailway are paved. This was once the part of the New York Central Railroad system.
Poison Ivy is very common along this trail, but I did my best to avoid it.
The cache is a camoed micro container. The cache is located just a short distance from the path. There was no brush at the time of placement, but this might be tough to reach during mid-summer.
In the ten years that we have lived in Westchester, we have seen this formerly industrial section off the Saw Mill be mostly ignored and left to rot. Recently several of the older building have been demolished or repurposed. This cache is located adjacent to a completely leveled former facility. There are many remaining dock and gates/roads to nowhere. I'm sure H2"0" can tell us what this used to be, but I wasn't able to find any info on it.
Parking is available at the posted coordinates.
