About Beaverton Transit Center
Beaverton Transit Center (BTC) is the hub of transit on Portland's Westside. The Transit center originally served just busses before the advent of MAX. The original BTC opened in 1979 was actually a few blocks south on a triangle between Lombard and Broadway. The Bus bay "cut-outs" are still there along the sidewalk. What is interesting is the old BTC was on the former right-of-way of the Oregon Electric Railway. The current BTC, for busses only, opened in 1988.
In 1998 the westside MAX line opened with a stop at BTC. This station is not on a former railroad RoW. MAX joins the former Oregon Electric Railway line just west of Beaverton Central station. With MAX opening, BTC became a major transfer hub between MAX and the west side network of Bus routes. Today the MAX Blue line runs through BTC, with most MAX Red line trains terminating in the center track of the 3 track station here.
The next evolution of the BTC came in 2009, when WES Commuter Rail started service to the BTC. A new platform just for WES opened on the south side of the BTC. This requires WES riders to cross through the bus portion of the TC to get to MAX. WES runs from BTC to Wilsonville during weekday rush hours only.
BTC is a very busy muggle place. This cache is close to BTC, but outside of the muggle zone.
