Geocache Description:

A "No Trespassing" sign has been posted in recent years near the trailhead to the cache *however* explicit permission has been granted by the VERY wonderful property owners for this cache placement. Geocachers are permitted to Find this cache! (THANK YOU!!!!)

This cache is located north west of the Swift Rapids Generation Station and Lock 43.
Lock 43 is a Parks Canada site. Be sure to obey all signs, do not litter, tread lightly and respect our environment!

Please take particular care from May to September if your vehicle has one or more wheels as this area is an important turtle habitat!

By Road

The "Swift Rapids Road" is a long unpaved trail cutting through marshland, vegetation and the Canadian Shield. The road, although unpaved, is very 4x4 friendly and traversable in summer and winter with patience (and an eye for potholes) in vehicles that are not 4x4 equipped.
With that being said, it should not be attempted with vehicles that have very low clearance or with occupants that aren't willing to take a couple of 'bounces' along the way!
WATCH FOR TURTLES FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER - THIS IS THEIR HABITAT!
There is a gate that is often closed at the end of the long road, but pedestrian traffic is allowed if it is closed.

By Water
This cache location is north of Lock 43 of the Trent-Severn Waterway; to that effect it can be reached by boat HOWEVER it is important to pay note to all signage and instructions regarding safe docking and locking. From Lock 43, you can walk to the cache within 10 minutes!

By Snowmobile
It is accessible by snowmobile in the winter, but please please avoid "shortcuts" across the ice, as the electricity generation station and constant current makes for less than certain ice thickness.

Other Local Geocaches
Why not stop and check out the other caches nearby? "Off Roaders Dream" (GCDD6) and of course "Swift Rapids (GC619 - the 5th oldest in Ontario!) are both great caches!
There is also the "Final" of the "Wrangler Series" caches (GCNWZV), but you'll need to complete the series to locate that particular cache.

Please ensure that the container is replaced as found.
It is imperative that no items be placed in the cache that may attract or interest any animals or birds.
This is an important area and should be respected accordingly.
Be sure not disturb natural (e.g. vegetation, soil) and / or heritage resources when visiting!

The Trent-Severn Canal
This canal is 385 kilometres (240 miles) and connects Lake Ontario at Trenton with Georgian Bay / Lake Huron at Port Severn. From Lake Ontario (75m) the canal climbs 181 m (600 feet) through 36 locks to its highest point on Balsam Lake at Kirkfield (248m / 814 ft), before dropping 79m (260 feet) through another 10 locks to Lake Huron (176m). The waterway and connecting lakes have over 1609 km (1000 miles) of shoreline and contain 160 islands, and is traversed by 18,000 pleasure boats each summer season. The canal enables sailors to move from the Atlantic to the Upper Great Lakes via the Hudson-Mohawk to Lake Ontario and the Trent-Severn to Lake Huron. Sailors can also use the St Lawrence River to Montreal and the Rideau Canal between Ottawa and Kingston to get to Lake Ontario, with a slight jaunt west to the Trent-Severn. The canal starts passes through typical southern Ontario farm country with bedrock covered by glacial sands and gravel, and rapidly rises into rugged Canadian Shield with rocky outcrops exposed as they were left by the Ice Age 12,000 years ago covered only by boreal forest.
