Geocache Description:

Thomasville History Series - Thomas Co. Courthouse

This geocache is located beside Thomas County's historic courthouse, built in 1858. The Greek Revival-Victorian Building was designed by John Wind and built by the Brewer Brothers, of Thomas County, for $14,999. The courthouse has undergone a number of renovations, most recently in 2013. The Thomas County Courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Thomas County was created from Decatur and Irwin counties in 1825. The county as well as the county seat of Thomasville is named after General Jett Thomas, a hero in the War of 1812 and later a builder of the state capitol in Milledgeville.

This cache is located in an urban enviroment so it is suggested that you excercise stealth while hunting. The cache is located beside the courthouse near the sidewalk on the right-of-way. The cache is not located inside the courthouse fence, but you are welcome to pass the fence to view this historic building. Happy caching!
