A Bridge Not Too Far Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

adventurers4: The park is still closed due to the station fire. I will place a brand new cache here as soon as the park opens. I don't think the bridge even survived the fire, let alone the tree it was hidden in.

Geocache Description:

A Bridge Not Too Far

less than 20 minutes from your car in a gem of a canyon

Your starting point for this cache hunt is the George Deukmejian Wilderness Park in Crescenta Valley. Park in the free parking lot and then follow the trail up. Turn left onto the Le Mesnager loop trail.

You will pass the A Cache by gum! cache and then turn right. Follow the trail system to the posted Rim of the Valley Trail. The trails drops down into Cooks Canyon where water trickles down a stream and oaks, California laurels and other mature trees provide welcome shade.

On the way up out of the canyon you'll come to the bridge mentioned in the cache title. The cache hiding spot is nearby.

You are looking for a small camo'd plastic jar about 2 x 2 inches. It is hidden in a natural object about five feet from the bridge. This is a safe location to travel and is easily accessible from the trail. This should narrow the possible locations. Decode the clue if you get stumped and check out the spoiler pics as well.

Please bring your own pen or pencil. please be sure that the lid is on tight and that you replace the container exactly as you found it, including the item used to keep it out of sight. Also, watch out for muggles on the trail. You'll be in plain sight as you find the cache. Other nearby caches include: A cache, by gum, Le Mesnager Lookout, Crescenta Toyon, Trail Builders Tribute, and the Dunsmore Canyon Trail. If you're really ambitious, This is a great loop up to Mt. Lukens and more caches. Keep going up the Rim of the Valley trail and then turn Right when it runs into the Haines Canyon Fire road. On the way to the top is the Tin Roof, Rusted Cache. Further up is an optional 1/2 mile roundtrip detour which takes you to the Montrose Search and Rescue Team Stone Canyon Cache. At the top, you can visit Sister Elsie's Antenna Farm Cache and Too Much Metal Cache. It's about four miles up to the top of the mountain. To return, go past the antenna farm along the fire trail. After a few turns in the road, turn Right to return on the Crescenta View Trail. On the way down, you can visit the Rock Me Amadeus, Crescenta View, and Altared States caches. This is about a 12 mile loop (6 hours).

Have fun!
