Geocache Description:

For our first cache, this is an easy walk in an under utilized nature preserve. Cache contains a log and a few small items.

The Zaitz Woods Nature Preserve is a 159 acre preserve of mixed and upland forests. The park contains part of the Bear Brook Greenway that runs through Washington, East Windsor and West Windsor townships. West Windsor Township acquired Zaitz Park in 1992, along with the 1790 Schenck farmhouse and the1780 Barn and the 1890 Parsonage School. The Preserve contains two very important environmental features - upland forest and vernal pool habitats. Several vernal pools exist within the Preserve - vernal pools are habitats for obligate and facultative vernal pool breeding species, including 21 species of salamanders, toads and frogs. To date, wood frogs and northern spring peepers have been observed in the vernal pools within the park.
