Located on Adak, Alaska in an old WWII bunker looking over the Bering Sea.
Cache is in a hidden bunker on Adak island in Alaska. Adak was a large Naval base in Alaska during WWII as well as a strategic location for the navy during the cold war. This site, Zeto Point, was the site of a joint army-navy defense control point. Three 155mm coastal artillery guns on "Panama" mounts covered the approaches to Sitkin Sound and Kuluk Bay. Located on the hill are ruins of support building, observation posts, machine gun bunkers, underground shelters, antipersonnel fences, duck boards, and wooden stairs. Getting to the Cache once on the island isn't too tough, but it will definately take some planning to get on the island.
This geocache is located on private land owned by The Aleut Corporation (TAC) and has been placed with TAC's explicit permission. Recreational use of TAC land requires a Land Use Permit, available for a nominal fee. Use of TAC lands without a permit is considered trespass. You can obtain your land use permit upon arrival at the Pat Kelly Airport Terminal, the Aleut Real Estate office on Adak (907.592.2325) or at the City Office. Please respect TAC's gracious opening of their lands to pubkic use by obtaining a permit and adhering to its conditions.
Edit 1: As this cache was placed quite some time ago in a very harsh environment, I would ask (beg) that the next person that attempts to find this cache PLEASE bring out a replacement log and writing instrument.
I can't tell you how excited I am that Zeto Point has had such a flurry of activity in 2009. There were only two finds in its first 5 years of life and there have already been six finds in 2009 alone. I would be happy to send a new log book to anyone attempting this cache or reimbursement for one if you can take care of it for me as this is not an easy place to get to.
Thanks again to everyone and I hope you all have fun...
Edit 2: After a few years of being archived and with the amazing help of FionneenOge, the new cache guardian, Zeto Point is up and running again. Thanks again for everything.
