The Birds of Crosswinds - A Geocache Series
This Geocache is one of a series of 12 geocaches that was launched in association with Crosswinds Marsh annual Hobby Day and Birds of Crosswinds Geocache event on August 21, 2021. Each of the cache containers has a unique code in the container cover. This code may be entered into an online form. If all of the 12 codes are correct the participant will be eligible for a commemorative collectable. To go to the form click HERE.
The theme of each geocache in the series will be that of one of the over 100 bird species that have been observed in Crosswinds.

Red Winged Black Bird: Just as their name describes, this small bird is black, with a bright red patch on its wing! At least the males do! They are the protectors of the nest, so they stand out and use their bright patch as a badge of armor against predators! The females spend the nesting season sitting down in the cattails with the chicks so they have a marbled tan, grey, cream color. These birds are one of the first to arrive at Crosswinds at the end of winter so if you see one, spring is on the way!!
