Geocache Description:

This is the Fifth cache in the HVC(Hudson Valley Council) Rockland District Cache to Eagle. This series will be highlighting Eagle Projects in Rockland County. This project is an outdoor learning and contemplative area consisting of picnic style table and 2 benches. The project was completed in November of 2010.

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the BSA requires years of dedication & hard work. The scout must complete 21 required merit badges, advance through 7 ranks of increasing difficulty, & serve in 1 or more positions of responsibility for a total of 16 months. Then he must plan and execute a service project consisting on average of 167 service hours. The project must benefit the community or a nonprofit organization. In 2008 alone, Eagle projects translated in to $16 million is service to our communities. ( based on the national volunteer hour value of $19.51 )

In 2010 The Boy Scouts turned 100 years old. The BSA introduced several new merit badges that year. One of them was Geocaching.

On a personal note I am setting up this series as part of my Woodbadge Ticket. Woodbadge is Adult Leader Training that requires a service project that benefits the unit, district, or council that you Volunteer in.

The cache is a small magnetic hide-a-key box with a log sheet only BYOP. Unfortunatly the Geocaching patch I would have left for the FTF would not fit. I set up a GeoCaching Course at the camp to introduce this wonderful sport to the younger boys in Scouting. When the scouts finsh the course the receive the patch.

There is also a town park next to "GZ". Very kid friendly with basketball, tennis and racket ball courts and a kiddie park. This also was where I grew up and played as a kid.

Congrat to TeamGeofrog on the FTF
