GFGF32 - Walmer Road Kiln Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired/replaced it, I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

Walmer Road in North Kensington boast the only remaining 19th century tile-kiln in London. In the mid 19th century Walmer Road lay at the heart of a wretched and notorious slum, known as 'The Potteries' and 'The Piggeries'.

Due to the natrure of the surrounding soil though, it was an area where high quality clay was dug and used for brick making to supply the veracious appetite of London's growing suburbs, fired in kilns like this one. Gradually, the area improved and today houses are sold for nothing less than seven figure sums.

This is number 32 of 40 of the 'GFGF' series of caches, all around London.

You are looking for a 35mm container, attached using a magnet.
