Cache is a medium sized lock-n-lock overlooking Eastchester Bay in
Pelham Bay Park.
At 2,764 acres, Pelham Bay Park is the largest park in New York
City. There are quite a few remarkably beautiful spots that make
you wonder if you're really in New York City. This is one of
them.
You can park at either Orchard Beach (fee in the summer months)
and follow the paved trails or you can park in the parking lot off
of Middletown road in the neighborhood of Country Club, and follow
the paved trails through the park and over the drawbridge. There is
also a tiny (usually packed) parking lot by Rodman's Neck. The Bx.
5, 12 (summer) and 29 (all year) stop nearby. When you get in the
vicinity, there is a smaller unpaved trail leading toward the
water.
When I was in High School, living on City Island, I would often
give up waiting for the bus and walk from the 6 train. After
crossing the drawbridge I'd walk along the pretty waterfront. This
is a peaceful spot I discovered. Bring a camera!
Please watch for fisherman muggles & replace carefully!!
