This is bit of a drive up a well developed road. If you plan to park you will need to purchase a day pass at the bottom of the canyon for $5.00. There is not a box there but it is a great location for a hike and you can log your find at the location.
This is a Unique canyon area on the East Fork of the San Gabrial River. This area in the early 60's was a favorite place to come hike up the river, fish, pan for gold and enjoy nature. This area in the 1800's was a Gold Rush area and had a small town located in the area along the river. Hydraulic mining was done just up stream from here on the left side of the river. Several shaft mines are also present in the canyon up river. Not sure of what year it was when they had a big flood and it took out the town and killed many people back in the late 1800's. The river is still rich with gold and is still found by present part-time prospectors as you will most likely see as you walk the river. Please replace cache as found.
