This is probably the most well known of the Scout Laws and is what
Scouts have been known for since the organization was created by
General Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 and brought to this country in
1910 by William Boyce.
And there can be no doubt why Lord Baden-Powell put this law first
on the list. All else fails without this concept as part of ones
moral code of ethics. Although it may take years for one to gain
the reputation of being trustworthy, it can take just one careless
act to destroy it. Do you know someone who is truly trustworthy?
This project was organized by Scout Erik Zawacki of Troop 8,
Brookfield. Over a hundred scouts from different troops and
townspeople gathered at different locations along the Still River
to remove everything from paper trash to washing machines and old
cars from the river. This particular location is where a car was
pulled from the river up the bank to the RR tracks by hand, block
and tackle, ropes and lots of scouts. About 20 feet north of the
cache you can still see the imprint of where the car was dragged up
the hill. There is no doubt that this project was the largest and
most beneficial to the environment and people that use this river
and therefore deserves the position at the top of the list along
with Trustworthy.
Erik is now a deep sea diver on the oil rigs in the Gulf of
Mexico
Do not try to access this cache from Poppy Drive as you would
have to cross private property and cross the tracks. The parking
coordinates are a small pull-off on a private drive leading
from the Brookfield Market with permission of the owner. Geocachers
alone may disregard the "No Trespassing" sign there. However, DO
NOT GO ANY FURTHER DOWN THE DRIVE FOR ANY REASON. From here
follow the overgrown gravel right-of-way along side the tracks
toward the cache. PLEASE DO NOT WALK ON THE
TRACKS !! Although this line is semi-abandoned, and
occasional slow moving freight does use it once or twice a month.
When your GPS points directly off to your left, descend the hill to
the cache.GPS accuracy is somewhat limited due to the deep cavern
you are in.
