The Birds of Crosswinds - A Geocache Series
This Geocache is one of a series of 12 geocaches that was launched in association with Crosswinds Marsh annual Hobby Day and Birds of Crosswinds Geocache event on August 21, 2021. Each of the cache containers has a unique code in the container cover. This code may be entered into an online form. The theme of each geocache in the series will be that of one of the over 100 bird species that have been observed in Crosswinds.
Great Blue Heron: Standing at around four feet tall, this slender blue toned bird is a site to see. They stand on the waters edge, waiting for prey to swim, hop, or even fly by! Their long neck is used to strike food in the water, while not moving it’s legs at all. While flying it is often confused with the Sandhill Crane, as they are similar in size, but there is one key difference! The Great Blue Heron tucks it’s neck in, creating an “S” shape in the air. They are only around for the summer months, so if you want to spot one, be sure to keep your eyes on the water's edge!

No fires
No bikes / ATVs / personal watercraft
No swimming or ice fishing
Dogs must be leashed
No alcohol or illegal substances
No camping
Fishing in designated areas only
Collecting of plants & animals prohibited
Park only at N 42° 05.744' W 83° 26.552'
All Geocachers must follow the above rules.
Crosswinds Marsh is open from DAWN to DUSK. Admission is FREE.
This cache has been placed with the permission of Wayne County Parks. Permit 2021-17 has been submitted and is on file at the park office.
