Please note, the cache is NOT at the coordinate listed!! This cache is a camo’d find-a-key. It has just enough room inside for the log so please bring your own writing instrument. It is in a high muggle area but you should be able to snatch the cache & return it without anyone noticing. Located in the historic downtown area, this is a perfect cache for cruisers visiting our fine town
For this cache you will visit three amazing totem poles in about a one block radius in the downtown Ketchikan area that are a must see on your cruise. To make sure you see them, I’ve put together a multi-cache for your enjoyment! Visit the totem poles, answer some questions, and use those answers to come up with coordinates for the final cache. ** The location of the geocache is at coordinates of ** North 55°AB.CDE', West 131°FG.HIJ'. Being a major tourist attraction, the totem poles are a great place for taking photographs. Photos are encouraged as long as you don't upload photos that give away answers. Any spoiler pictures will be removed. The questions are designed so that you can enjoy uploading some good pictures without ruining this multi-cache for other geocachers. Also of note is that if you rub the belly of the bottom figure at the Chief Kyan Totem pole, the legend says that money will pass through your hands within 24 hours! But beware....they legend doesn't say which way it will pass....so be careful around those jewelry stores! Wink, wink! :-) The 3 poles are located at the following: The Raven Stealing the Sun Totem Pole is at N 55° 20.547’, W 131° 38.595’ The Chief Kyan Totem Pole is at N 55° 20.495’, W 131° 38.639’ The Chief Johnson Totem Pole is at N 55° 20.520’, W 131° 38.562’ At present, the Raven Stealing the Sun pole has been removed for cleaning and repairs, but the sign is there which should give you the information you need for the coordinates. Stop at each of the Totem Poles to find out what numbers to plug in for the letters. You will have to do some searching at the poles, some reading, & some adding & subtracting for this one. Here are your questions. AB CHIEF KYAN TOTEM POLE – The original pole stood in Barney Way until the late 19__’s? C CHIEF JOHNSON TOTEM POLE – How many letters are in the 2nd word in the 1st paragraph of the plaque? D RAVEN STEALING THE SUN TOTEM POLE – How many items did raven desire from the powerful chief? E RAVEN STEALING THE SUN TOTEM POLE – How many letters are in the 2nd word in the 4th line of the 1st paragraph? F CHIEF KYAN TOTEM POLE – How many figures are identified on this totem pole? G RAVEN STEALING THE SUN TOTEM POLE - How many letters are in the word to tell the method by which Raven opened the boxes? H CHIEF JOHNSON TOTEM POLE – The original memorial pole stood until 19__. Subtract the numbers from each other to get the correct answer. I CHIEF JOHNSON TOTEM POLE – How many letters are in the last name (in Tlingit) of the Chief mentioned in the second paragraph? J CHIEF KYAN TOTEM POLE – How many letters are in the name of the tribe that the master carver belongs to? Subtract that number from the following question: How many letters are in the name of the bottom figure on the pole?
