A geocache with a beautiful panoramas for every little direction, green humps.. Varbóc, a little village is unrivalled with its peaceful atmosphere. And You can find here one elements of the Hungarian lighting location system.
How to get there?
The easiest way is to go there by car: From Miskolc on road No.27 (to North) till Perkupa. You have to turn left to Varbóc at the church. A Varbóc is a stand off village, 4kms from Perkupa, in the middle of the forrest. You can park in the village center, and from there you need to walk up to the top of the hill. It is 1.5km by foot.
If you actually near to Aggtelek-Jósvafo cave system, you need to turn to Tornakapolna at Szinpetri. At the end of the road there is the green tourist sign, follow it.

At Perkupa there is a train station, but it is quite infrequent. Try to travel by train to Sajószentpéter, and there change to bus, and go till Perkupa, then by foot.
The lighting location system:
At Hungary there are 5 stations for monitoring the ligting activity, and you can find one from there here. They both need to operate to localize the flashes. We can separete to main flash events: the cloud to ground, and an intra cloud. IC flashes are previously reported than CG about a half hour, and most of the flashes belongs to here. Most of the time we could say that IC cloud will appear in VHF region (100MHz) and CG flashes can be received with LF (100kHz) techniques. LF technics use syncron time with GPS, and TOA method, while CG systems use direction measurement, then triangulation. At Hungary we use the VAISALA-DIMENSIONS: SAFIR system. With the integrated ALDIS-FLASH system.
Most of the flashes are presented at summer time. 30-30 rule: if you hear less than 30 sec between the flash and the sound find a safe place while 30min has spent after the last flash.
Varbóc is really kind for me. It is peaceful, and wonderful. I would like to show You!! There are some accomodation at Varbóc, a lot!
The cache is not an ordinary one, at one tree roots.
