Geocache Description:

The given coordinates will lead you to the Naboomspruit memorial to the Louis Trichardt Trek (Louis Trichardt road is the former name of the main road going North West)

The Great Trek in South Africa started with Louis Trichardt and Hans van Rensburg leading the first groups to leave the Colony with 53 people in Trichardt’s group. Hans van Rensburg also left the colony at the same time with his group of followers but his aim was to move to Mozambique. Near the Gompies and Olifants rivers Tregardt had words with Van Rensburg regarding the excessive use of ammunition on hunting elephants and obtained ivory for future trade, and warned him to be more sparingly. Van Rensburg quick tempered by nature responded that he was man enough to take care of his party, and thus the two groups split. The place is still called Strydpoort.

Louis Trichardt moved on to the area where the town of Louis Trichardt is situated today.
