Historic Value:
As quoted from Wikipedia:
The Letterklip is a provincial heritage site in Namaqualand in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.
In 1980 it was described in the Government Gazette as
This unique rock formation was fortified and occupied from 1901 to 1902 by the British forces during the Anglo-Boer War. Various regimental badges and officers' names are engraved in the rockface.
Legend:
Letterklip - (letter stone) A road from Garies leads northwest to the Letterklip formations. It comprises several enormous, megalithic boulders on top of a hill carrying the names of early Namaqualand travellers who, it is claimed, used it as a post office.
CACHE INFO:
This heritage site is on the farm Ventura owned by Thys Schreuder. Access is free, and open to the public. Letterklip is fenced in with a gate towards the parking spot. From Main road in garies at the turnoff, to the parking next to Letterklip, is 1.2 kilometers. The owner of the farm only ask that the gate at the Main rd be closed behind you. The road can be accessed with a sedan vehicle. I would however urge you to drive slowly. Bakkies and SUV's will be better equipped for this road.
The cacje is hidden inside the heritage site next to letterklip. It is very easy to find, and no damage needs to be done to anything. A spoiler pic is available. It is placed directly next to a boulder, covered with some SMALL rocks on the right side when facing the boulder.
