Η
λίμνη Βουλισμένη
είναι μια μικρή
- πρώην γλυκιά,
αργότερα συνδεδεμένη
με τη θάλασσα
- λίμνη, που βρίσκεται
στο κέντρο της
πόλης του Αγίου
Νικολάου της
Κρήτης. Έχει
διάμετρο 137 μέτρα
και βάθος 64. Οι
ντόπιοι αναφέρονται
σε αυτή τη λιμνοθάλασσα
απλά ως «λίμνη».
Η λίμνη συνδέεται
με το λιμάνι της
πόλης με ένα
κανάλι που
ανοίχθηκε το
1870. Πανοραμική θέα
της λίμνης προσφέρεται
από το πάρκο που
βρίσκεται πάνω
από αυτήν. Κάθε
χρόνο τα μεσάνυχτα
του Πάσχα, η

αστικός μύθος
αναφέρει ότι η
λίμνη δεν έχει
πυθμένα. Η άποψη
αυτή πιθανόν
βασίζεται στο
δυσανάλογα
μεγάλο της βάθος
σε σχέση με την
επιφάνειά της
ή/και σε διαταραχές
στην επιφάνεια
ή και την στάθμη
του νερού που
παρατήρησαν οι
κάτοικοι κατά
τη διάρκεια του
σεισμού της
Σαντορίνης το
1956. Για αυτό το
λόγο εικάζεται
πως υπάρχει
γεωλογική
σχέση των δύο
θέσεων, αλλά
επιστημονικές
έρευνες επί
του θέματος
δεν είναι ακόμα
γνωστές.

former
sweetwater
small
lake,
later
connected
to
the
sea,
located
at
the
centre
of
the
town
of
Agios
Nikolaos.
It
has a circular shape
of a diameter of 137 m and depth 64 m. The locals refer to it as just
"the lake". The lake connects to the harbour of the town by
a channel dug in 1870. A panoramic view of the lake can be seen from
a small park situated above it.
According
to legend, the goddess
Athena bathed in it. Every year at midnight turning to Orthodox
Christian Easter day, the majority of the population of the town
gathers around the lake to celebrate with fireworks, and firecrackers
thrown by the people attending that highlight event.
It
was reported that the
German army during their withdrawal from the area at WW2, disposed
parts of their weaponry and/or vehicles into the deep lake.
A local urban
legend has it that the lake is bottomless. That notion is potentially
based on its impressively disproportional high depth compared to its
width (64m depth on only 134m width) or/and on locals noticing
disturbances at the surface or also the level of the water during the
Santorini (Thera) earthquake of 1956. Because of the latter, many
assume a possible geological relation of the two locations, but this
claim has not been substantiated by known scientific surveys to date.

Der
Voulismeni-See (Griechisch: Λίμνη Βουλισμένη,
Límni Voulisméni) in Agios Nikolaos enthält
Süßwasser, wurde jedoch im Jahr 1870 durch einen Kanal mit
dem Seehafen der Stadt verbunden.
Nach Angaben der
Mythologie soll die Göttin Athene ein Bad im See genommen haben.
Eine weitere Legende besagt, dass der See bodenlos und mit der
hunderte Kilometer entfernten Insel Santorin verbunden sei. Diese
Geschichte stützt sich unter anderem darauf, dass bei einem
Erdbeben auf Santorini im Jahr 1956 auch die Wasseroberfläche
des Voulismeni-Sees stark erschüttert worden sein soll.
Tatsächlich weist der See mit 65 m eine beachtliche Tiefe auf
und fällt somit bei einem Durchmesser von maximal 137 m am Ufer
stark ab.
Im Zweiten
Weltkrieg, so wird berichtet, haben die deutschen Besatzungstruppen
vor ihrem Abzug Waffen, Fahrzeuge und weitere Ausrüstung im See
versenkt. Heutzutage ist der See von einer langen Promenade mit
zahlreichen Tavernen und Bars umgeben und ist darüber hinaus ein
beliebtes Ausflugsziel für die Stadtbevölkerung zum
orthodoxen Osterfest.
