Geocache Description:

Event date: Sunday 24th April from 10am!

Earn a souvenir and help clean up a lakeside park. This event goes from 10am until we feel we've done enough cleaning up - or as much time as you can spare.

Regardless of the weather, the event will still be going ahead!

The published coordinates are for a public carpark which will serve as the base of operations.  Look for my car, a silver Subaru Forester, with a silver box trailer.  There is a Geocaching sticker on the right rear tailgate and possibly a large green Geocaching flag as well.

This park, between the main road of Warrawong servicing the strip of shops, and the shore of Lake Illawarra, is generally well-maintained when it comes to the mown areas.  But to the south of the carpark (your left as you face the water) there is a section of scrub which has collected a lot of rubbish.  Along the wide roadside verge to the south for quite some distance there is much rubbish in evidence also.  Depending on time, rubbish collected and the number of attendees we may head north of the carpark as well.

Rubbish bags, bug spray, bottles of water, hand cleaner and disposable gloves will be provided, but you should probably also bring your own drinks and snacks, and tougher gloves if you prefer them.  Also, this is a section of scrub next to a lake so hopefully contains many animals, some of which may be bitey, so take the usual precautions. I recommend you wear long pants and strong enclosed shoes. Be aware of the proximity to a main road and the water as well.

Official info from Groundspeak is below:

Cache In Trash Out® is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

For the past 13 years, geocachers around the world have celebrated International Cache In Trash Out weekend annually by hosting and participating in Cache In Trash Out Events in their local area. This year, we're extending the CITO celebration to two entire weeks. CITO Week Events might be focused on litter clean-up, removal of invasive species, revegetation efforts or building trails. Together, we make an enormous positive impact. Did we mention that we also have a bit of fun while we're at it?

The 14th Annual Cache In Trash Out Weeks are scheduled for April 16 – 24 and September 17 – 25, 2016.
