This is the second of a series of four multicaches that will each require a visit to some of the small settlements in Ano Meria, the beautiful northern part of Syros that is often overlooked by visitors to the island. Ano Meria, the soul of Syros, rises from the most dramatic and isolated of its beaches up to its highest peaks with breathtaking views of many of the Cycladic islands across the sea. The region is reached by car from the road north out of Ano Syros above Ermoupoli
To find this cache, you will have to visit Chartiana (Χαρτιανά), Platos (Πλάτος), Mitakas (Μύτακας), and Papouri (Παπούρι) which are close by each other on the northern edge of Pyrgos (Πύργος) the highest of the many hills of Syros.
From the small settlement of Chartiana (N37 27.654 E24 54.581) you can see the sun set over the sea towards the islands of Kythnos and Kea. If you fancy swimming in Delfini Bay, you can follow the path through the river valley.
At the given coordinates, you will find yourself at the last bend in the tarmac road. Get out of your car, stretch your legs and look all about you for the following number:
A=N 3312-?.
Once you have found A, you can return back up the road towards Mitakas.
Soon, you will be in the tiny settlement of Platos (N37 27.962 E24 55.357).
At the given coordinates you can find the following two numbers:
B=ΚΡΗΣ 201?.
C=The number of greek letters on the signpost that are not also in the english alphabet.
The blue-roofed church of Agia Ekaterini (N37 27.756 E24 55.544) can be found on the road south from Mitakas, climbing the hill of Pyrgos towards the windmills and the communications towers.
The road is narrow with a few places for parking a car. After enjoying the view of Ermoupoli, you can enter the churchyard via the bolted gate.
The church is likely to be locked, but you can find the following number without entering the building:
D=The third digit in the year carved above the door (it is very faded, but still readable).
The church of Agios Panteleimon (N37 28.200 E24 55.535) is above the settlement of Papouri, a few hundred metres below Mitakas.
The church was unlocked when I visited and the key was in the door, though you do not need to enter the church to find the following two numbers:
E=The last digit of the year above the door
F=The number of steps up from the road to the church
You will find the cache hidden at N37 28.(C-A)(E-A)(D-E) E24 55.(D-B)(F/2)(E-C). It is yellow and small enough to fit inside a hen's egg.
