La sfârşitul secolului XVIII în această zonă se afla o piaţă, numită Piața Bem. Aici se organizau zile de târg, evenimente și adunări ale locuitorilor cu diverse ocazii. În 1950 se amenajează parcul, cu arbori transplantați din pădurile de pe dealul Măgura.
Renovarea la forma de azi a Parcului Central s-a făcut în 2009. Este un parc frumos, cochet, îngrijit, având diverse specii de arbori, alei pietonale, coloane ornamentale, mobilier nou și loc de joacă pentru copii. Cele patru intrări sunt flancate de coloane pătrate ce au în vârf ornamente. Toate intrările duc la fântâna arteziană din centrul parcului, situată lângă un frumos foişor.
În partea laterală, aproape de strada 1 Decembrie, se află Statuia Sfintei Treimi. O legendă care spune că, în jurul anului 1780, în perioada celui de-al treilea val de ciumă din Europa, ajungând și la Șimleu Silvaniei, locuitorii au realizat o statuie pe care au amplasat-o în piaţa centrală. Ciiuma s-a întins până la statuie, iar după statuie orașul a fost ferit de ciumă și au fost salvate mii de vieți. Această legendă a dăinuit până în zilele noastre și se consideră că ar fi destul de curate informațiile având în vedere că evenimentele au avut loc în aceeaşi perioadă (valul de ciumă şi construcţia statuii). Statuia din parc este o copie, originalul aflându-se în Biserica Romano-Catolică.
O placă aniversară și o magnolie sădită impreună cu delegația orașului înfrățit, Petah Tikva din Israel, simbolizează pacea şi fraternitatea dintre cele două localităţi. Pe baza relațiilor cu acesta s-au înfrățit și două licee: Liceul Simion Bărnuțiu din Șimleu și Liceul Berman din Petah Tikva. În fiecare an au loc schimburi de experiența între elevi. Astfel, cei din Israel vin în Șimleu, se simt ca acasă și învață din tradițiile și obiceiurile specifice zonei. Au acces la informații pe care nu și le pot lua decât de la fața locului. Acest aspect e valabil și reciproc, elevi din Șimleu fac schimb de experiență în Israel și participă la datinile culturii israelite.
În parc a fost amplasat, în anul 2014, Bustul lui Corneliu Coposu, cu ocazia împlinirii a 100 de ani de la naşterea acestuia. Născut în județul Sălaj Corneliu Coposu este una din personalități istorice și culturale importante în istoria recentă a României.

At the end of the 18th century there was a square in this area called Bem Square. Here were held fair days, events and gatherings of the inhabitants on various occasions. In 1950 the park was set up with trees transplanted from the woods on Magura hill.
Renovation of today's Central Park was made in 2009. It is a beautiful, chic, well-tended park with various tree species, pedestrian walkways, ornamental columns, new urban furniture and a children's playground. The four entrances are flanked by square columns with ornaments on top. All the entrances lead to the artezian fountain in the center of the park, placed beside a beautiful gazebo.
On the side, close to 1 December Street, you can see The Holy Trinity Statue. According to a legend, around 1780, during the third wave of plague in Europe, reaching Şimleu Silvaniei, the inhabitants made a statue that they placed in the central square. The plague spread to the statue, but beside the statue the city was protected from the plague and thousands of lives were saved. This legend has survived to this day and it is believed that the information is quite clean given that these events took place in the same period (the plague wave and the building of the statue). The statue in the park is a copy, the original being in the Roman Church -Catolică.
An anniversary plate and magnolia planted together with a delegation of the twin city Petah Tikva from Israel, symbolize peace and brotherhood between the two cities. On the basis of this relationship, two high schools were befriended: Simion Barnutiu High School of Şimleu and Berman High School of Petah Tikva. Every year exchange of experience takes place between students. Thus, the students from Israel come to Şimleu and learn the traditions and customs specific to the area. They have access to information they can get only by coming here. This applies equally to the students from Şimleu, who exchange experience in Israel and participate in the traditions of the Israelite culture.
In the park, in 2014, Corneliu Coposu's Bust was placed with the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Born in Sălaj County, Corneliu Coposu is a important historical and cultural personality in Romania's recent history.
