Geocache Description:

The village of Szentgál

This place has been habited since the stone age, because of its secure location in the mountain. Legend has it that it is named after a priest from Saint Gallen. He traveled the land on the orders of Duke Géza to convert the Hungarian population to Christianity. The village is first mentioned in a document dating back to 1281. The residents were thu hunters of the King.

Flint Mountain Cave

The cave is located about 650 yards West-Northwest of the village of Szentgál. Its two entrances are found in an abandoned part of the quarry. These entrances are being slowly filled up with the fallen stones. The Southern gate is about 1.5yards by 1.5 yards. The 2-yard wide Northern entrance is low and it can be accessed by sliding through it. The entrances are at about 400 yards elevation level.
The cave is about 90 yards long in total. The largest hollow is about 210 sqm.
Fourteen protected bats species inhabit the cave. They also use it as a temporary shelter. This is the only proven place of occurrence of the Northern bat in the country.

Attention: this is not multi-cache!

The entrance to the cave is blocked by metal bars due to the falling rocks inside. And the bats should not be disturbed either.
Building fire in front of the cave is prohibited.
