Geocache Description:

You can find this geocache in the side of the embankment of the winded-up railway on the margin of Zselic hilly country. The cache hides amongst the trunks of a bush.

The history of Kaposvár-Barcs winded up railway line

This line was putted into operation on November 16th 1905. The length was 66 kms and the running time was 2 hours. In the last operating year, there were daily 11 trains (6 trains to Kaposvár from Barcs and 5 trains in the opposite direction). You can find an old ABYmot type Diesel-engine powercar made in Ganz plant and that is exhibited in the Kaposvár railway station. The last train went over on this line on December 31st 1979.
The rails and sleepers disappeared later. A caracteristic section was transformed into cycle-path.

Three possibilities to find the cache
(These alternatives lead you on the shorter or longer stages of the same cycle-path)

1. The shortest route: In case you only want to pick the cache up, you drive to Lipótfa village. You will cross the cycle-path here ( N 46° 16,889' E 17° 40,255'). You make your way South in the bicycle road leading to Bánya. You leave the cycle-path where it bends left and you go ahead on the railway embankment.
2. You drive to Petörke-ponds at village Bárdudvarnok and you can find the above mentioned cycle-path. You park your car ( N 46° 19,697' E 17° 41,918') and you can go South on the concrete cycle path among hills and fish-ponds in the walley of Bárdi-brook. You reach Lipótfa and then you are looking for cache according to 1st Paragraph.
3. The starting-point of the longest route: ( N 46° 21,287' E 17° 41,556'). You can cycle or you can go by foot on the cycle path from Kaposméro – in case you like the sandy or muddy cycle-path because the path has concrete pavement only from Kassai-valley to Lipótfa (and further to Bánya).
En route you find the „Kassai-walley” . Kassai Lajos is a multipled world champion and Guinness-recorder of horseback-archery. He restored to life this ancestral Hungarian battle method and spreads on over the world. This is the centre of World Association of this sport. You can cycle or go South to Lipótfa, and you can find the cache according to 1st Paragraph.
