The Rising Sun on East Mountain cache is about 50 meters off the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail (section 5).
Important New information - 12 September 2002
You may access this part of the M-M trail from its junction with West Cherry Street, which is accessible by car only via Mountain Rd. No trespassing signs have gone up at the M-M trailhead (N 42 12.573; W 072 39.592) since the cache was placed . Recently, the trailhead has been freshly blazed despite the no trespassing signs. I have received clarification from the AMC, the maintainers of the trail. Here is their reply:

"The no trespassing signs you mean are there illegally. My GPS maps show
that the land we are on belongs to the Holyoke water dept. This land owner
posted land he does not own. He does own about 100 feet to the west on west
cherry st. ext. I do not want to remove the signage, but have notified the
Holyoke water dept. about the disputed land. In the mean time I am going to
leave the trail where it is."

The trail soon makes a short but steep climb. When the trail levels off you are treated to some really nice vistas to the west (right). The cache is about 50 meters ESE of an unobstructed vista point. The coordinates for this vista point are: N 42 12.444; W 072 39.647. The cache is a .50 caliber ammo box filled with Japanese items. Most of the original items were claimed so I dispatched Muddy Feat to restock. In addition to a logbook and camera, there are, as of 13 October 2001, the following Japanese items:
1 package of 2 coasters with 1 telephone card wallet
1 Tomy Blip game
1 hand painted Otagiri coffee mug
4 packages of Japanese paper currency
2 packages of Japanese stamps
1 package (100 + 1) yen Japanese coins
1 package of 5 Pokemon cards
many assorted items left by other geocachers
