Weedhopper placed the first cache in this area -- Mt. Pisgah -- back in early 2002. It has been through a few different containers but is still going strong. I recently adopted the cache, but before that happened Weedhopper made one more visit and dropped off a new ammo can full of trade items just in case the Mt. Pisgah container needed replacing. I zipped up the mountain today to check, and decided that the ammo can can survive a year or two longer, so that left me with an ammo can to spare. And most folks know what I do when I find myself with a cache container -- I hide it!
The listed coordinates are NOT for the cache but bring you to a benchmark near the peak. [You will actually be looking for RM #2, but it is pretty close.] You will need to find information from near that spot. Obey all signs in the area!
The actual coordinates for the ammo can are:
N 35° 25. AB 3
W 82° 4 C . D 96
A, B, C, and D can all be found at or very near the listed coordinates.
A = the sum of the first and last digits of the antennae license number
B = the middle digit of the antennae license number
C = the first digit of the year stamped on the benchmark PLUS the last digit of the year stamped on the benchmark
D = the total number of numbers stamped on the benchmark
CHECKSUM: A + B + C + D = XY; X + Y = 3
The cache is located about 300 feet off of the main trail; some light/medium bushwhacking will be required. Please re-hide the ammo can so that it is not visible. Thanks to Weedhopper for providing the container and contents! Enjoy!
