Geocache Description:

This is a very well-hidden micro, and it'll take you a little time to get to it, but it's a nice hike along a brook.

Tonight I was bored and went off trying to find an old foundation marked on the 1886 Beers Map. I'm assuming it would have been an old saw mill or something that used the brook for power, as it was marked right next to the brook. I didn't find the foundation, unfortunately, but enjoyed the hike very much, and left a cache with what I had (a 35mm film canister) so that you can discover the area as well.

If you don't wear waterproof shoes, be warned, you WILL have wet feet. Where the brook isn't, wetland is, and you'll have to cross a small section of the brook somewhere to get to the cache.

If you have time to kill and want to try to find the foundation, I left a copy of the Beers map in the container. The cache has to be fairly close tough, but it's tough to go by an old map like that. It's not like I have coordinates or even contours to try to find it with, and the bends in the brook in that map are far from accurate. It was getting dark, I was tired, and I left for home rather than hiking any further. There's also a copy of the map here: (visit link) or here: (visit link) Unfortunately, it's not on the 1948 Peru quadrangle I have. If you do find it, it'd be awesome if you could post the coordinates! I'd be back down there in a second!

Also, this was the first place I've been in a long time where I didn't see so much as a sandwich baggie on the ground. Let's keep it that way! Cache in, trash out!

I'm pretty sure there's a quarter in the container, so if that's the case FTF gets a whopping 25 cent prize!

While I followed the brook on the way down hoping to find the foundation, I bushwacked back to the road after hiding the cache. It was definitely quicker.

Also, BYOP! There was no way I could fit one in the container, nor would I give up my Pilot G2 to do so if I could!

Congratulations to Capt. Bob for FTF!
