Geocache Description:

A cache that requires you to walk around the cemetery and gather information off the tombstones. Parking can be by the gate or in the gravel lot at the southeast corner of the cemetery.

A little history:

June 13, 1939, the General Moses Hazen Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) dedicated a plaque in honor of seven of Richford’s Revolutionary War patriots. The plaque was placed on the large boulder in front of Town Hall. It became dislodged when it was hit one too many times during snow removal. Captain Jedediah Hyde Chapter NSDAR was contacted, as the General Moses Hazen Chapter had disbanded, about what to do with this plaque. After three years of research the plaque was rededicated and placed along side the American Legion Post 12 plaque at the Troy Street Cemetery.

A little of the soldiers service:

+ Thomas Arms, was a member of the Vermont Militia at the capture of Fort Ticonderoga.
+ Benjamin Barnett, served as a scout with his father-in-law Hugh Miller under Colonel Timothy Bedel’s NH Regiment of 1775. He saw action at the Battle of Bennington and at the Battle of Saratoga.
+ Jonathan Carpenter, served as a member of Benjamin Cox’s company of Rangers. He and Roland Powell were cousins and Mayflower descendents.
+ Hezekiah Goff, served as a Marine aboard the "Oliver Cromwell" under several Captains. He also served as a Private from Massachusetts under Captain Story and Colonel Jackson. Hezekiah also answered the call in 1812 to fight and serve with grandsons at Plattsburg, NY.
+ Hugh Miller, served as a scout with his son-in-law under Colonel Timothy Bedel’s NH Regiment 1775. His brother-in-law was Robert Rogers of the famed Roger’s Rangers in the French and Indian Wars.
+ Rowland Powell, served under Captain Joshua Hazen’s Company and Colonel Wood.
+ Gideon Wood, served from New Hampshire.
