Traditional Cache near the Trail-head of Bush Hill Property Trail. Dirt Road leads to cache near the trail head marked by a historical ruin Shaker homestead.
Read the entire Description before searching for the cache.
There is NO need to MOVE any stones to find the cache. Do not disturb the historical site. No Bushwacking is needed to make the find. The cache is not more then 8 ft from the center of the trail. It was placed so that you could reach it without climbing over anything. Please preserve the location as best you can. There are two special items inside the cache for the FTF and STF. Please be kind to the second to find and leave one of them.
This Cache is located near a Shaker Historical Site which is at the North Trail Head of the Bush Hill Property. While your looking for the cache notice the two general heights of stone walls. The taller stone walls originally kept the shaker livestock inside paddocks and the lower walls are the side effect of clearing fields. From the Trail Head toward where the cache is placed you can see the foundations of the Shaker Home and the Barn. The foundations are deep and made of field stones. The cache is not in the foundations. Historically the shakers took livestock on the train and then drove them to this site and grazed them here.
The trail here was cut, maintained, and blazed (Blue Blazes) by the Ashburnham Conservation Trust and links up with the Martin Memorial Forest Trail (Yellow Blazes) that is maintained by New England Forestry Foundation.
Bush Hill Road is a 1 1/2 lane dirt road. I recommend caution be taken at all times of year but especially in winter. I drive up in a subaru outback.
Property Description: 900 Acres
Bush Hill History: At the trail head there are the foundations of a shaker home.
Bush Hill Trail Description: Trail was cut after 2007. The Trail Head is very close to the cache site. Please keep in mind the trail starts here and ends on the southern part of the property quite a distance from the trail head. Leaving you quite a walk from your car.
Thanks to the Ashburnham Conservation Trust (visit link) for their assistance and permission to geocache on the property.
The Cache owner is in the process of Mapping Trails on land owned by the Trust. Feel free to contact him about the cache or trails on this property.
