Sorgu that is situated on the 30th kilometre of Pärnu–Riia seaway is a kind of Cinderella in its own way. This is a tiny stony islet — natural rockery and paradise of sea birds — surface area: 5 ha, located westwards from Manilaid. Northern point of the island rises from the sea quite steeply and extends in the form of plateau to the lighthouse; there is also the only place from where right inshore can be reached by boat. Sorgu that was first mentioned around the middle of the 16th century carries on old charts the name of Sorkholm. Reefs of Sorgu, situated alongside the entrance way to the Gulf of Pärnu, are known to sailors from old times already, because many ships have been sunken here. A wooden seamark was erected on the island at the time when the port of Pärnu was build, in 1864. In 1904 the mark was replaced by a cylindrical lighthouse, made of red bricks, the height of which is 16 m, 19 m from the sea level. The post of lighthouse keeper was for the last time occupied by the family of Haavik. A son of the lighthouse keeper was born on the island and he is probably the only man for whose birthplace the island of Sorgu is marked. Summer holiday home of the maritime department was situated in the building of the house of the lighthouse keeper in the middle of 1960’s. Auxiliary buildings of the lighthouse are built of the stones of Sorgu. Granite originating from Sorgu can be found also in old cobblestone pavements and moles of Pärnu. Uninhabited Sorgu is one of favourite stopping and nesting places of migratory birds and therefore on the island of Sorgu the ban on movement is established from the 1st of April until the 15th of July. <br>[EST] Oma 20. aarde soovisin peita eriliselt. Peale mõningast järelemõtlemist hakkas peas küpsema plaan... Ja nii juhtuski, et 24. veebruaril sai vaba päeva puhul ette võetud üks merematk. Mis seal salata, eesmärgiks aarde peitmine. Marsruut viis meid seekord Pärnu lahel olevale Sorgu saarele. Kuna me ei olnud varem sellel saarel käinud, varusime kõikvõimalikke materjale ühe hea aarde koostamiseks. Kahjuks väsitas matk saareni meid üksjagu ja saarel ootas meid ca 1,5 m kõrge lumi, kus edasi sai liikuda vaid "nelikveoga". Majakas oli uudishimulikele suletud ja seetõttu kasutasime puhkamiseks hoonetekompleksi elumaja. Kriitilise pilguga ringi vaadates leidsime, et ainus võimalus aaret peita, on kasutada seda sama hoonet. Kuna saarel on liikumiskeeld 15.04-31.08 (vananenud info), võiks aare olla lumega leitav - vastasel juhul jääks võimalik otsimise aeg väga napiks. Mõeldud-tehtud ja aare sai paigutatud hoonevareme ühte "magamistuppa". Sorgu ise on inimtühi saar, pindala on temal vaid 0,05 ruutkilomeetrit. 1904. aastal valminud massiivne majakavahimaja on tühi juba viiekümnendate aastate lõpust. Viimasena pidas majakavahi ametit Haavikute pere. Seal tuli ilmale ka majakavahi poeg - ainus inimene, kellel sünnikohaks on Sorgu saar. Leskperenaine pidas hiljem Manijal tuletorni ülevaataja ametit. Kuuekümnendate aastate keskel oli majakavahi hoones veeteede valitsuse suvine puhkekodu.
