Number The Stars by Lois Lowry is a work of historical fiction about the Holocaust. It is the story of a family who take in their daughter's 10 year old Jewish friend during the war. It won the Newbury Medal in 1990.

It is Richgirl's favorite book. And the author is the mother of a high school friend of Box of Treasures! Richgirl's great grandmother all took writing classes by the author.
