Geocache Description:

I found this spot 2 years ago, a nice place to rest with a great view on the way to the top of the Bird Mountain dome. Check out where it is on a satellite map before deciding to try this one!

This will be a very difficult cache to get to - very steep terrain, climbing over boulders and cutting through brush once you get in close.

The simplest way there is to take the access trail for the wildlife refuge off of Birdseye Road (the Birdseye Road on the Castleton side) and follow it until it starts to go downhill again. It's a little over a mile of relatively easy hiking on the trail before the difficult terrain. Beyond the trail, you will be climbing over boulders in a rock slide and cutting through thick brush. It becomes very steep and you will need your hands!

There isn't much in the box, your reward will be the awesome views. If you are a decent climber, you may want to continue to the summit of the dome, which is only a few hundred feet away - 10 to 15 minutes - if you can make it.

If you choose to go to the summit, you can take a trail to the north as far as an ATV trail. When you get to the ATV trail, make a right (SE) and follow that trail down to the base of the rocks. It eventually returns near the Wildlife Management Area access trail, but your GPS will still come in handy.

You will probably not have cell phone service most of the way.

Expect mud, bugs, long weeds, and spectacular views. Bring your camera and plenty of water. Wear long pants and sturdy shoes. You may need bug spray depending on the weather.

This is not a family cache unless everybody is experienced with climbing and in good physical shape.
