Het Roversnest…….
Tijdens de Tachtigjarige oorlog (1568-1648) werd er veel geplunderd en geroofd in Twente.
Nu blijkt een Geocacher een oud document te hebben gevonden met daarop de juiste coördinaten van een verloren schat....
During the Dutch war of Independence (1568-1648) there was a lot of plundering and robbing in the area of Twente.
But now it turns out that an Geocacher found an ancient document with the coordinates of a lost treoasure....
Het Roversnest…….
Tijdens de Tachtigjarige oorlog (1568-1648) werd er veel geplunderd en geroofd in Twente.
Er zijn verschillende verhalen over geuzenlegers die kloosters binnendringen en daar aan het plunderen slaan. Maar ook de slecht betaalde Spaanse soldaten zijn berucht.
In Almelo en omstreken was een struikroversbende die zowel de Geuzen overvielen als wel de Spaanse soldaten. Het geld en de kostbaarheden die zij stalen werden gebruikt om arme burgers en arme boeren te steunen en te helpen in hun levensonderhoud. Schatten en kostbaarheden die door de beruchte “Almeloosche Struikrovers” veroverd en gestolen waren, werden her en der verstopt. Nooit werden deze kostbaarheden op één plek verstopt. Zij verstopten hun buit in verschillende “Roversnesten”. Dit werd gedaan om te voorkomen dat zogauw één van hen werd gepakt, de buit helemaal in handen van anderen zou komen. Het martelen van verdachten als verhoring was toen aan de orde van de dag. Op deze manier zouden ze dus niet alles kwijt raken als iemand toch te loslippig zou worden.
In 1578 plunderen de staatse ritmeester Gert van Balen en vaandrig Arent Brecke de stad Almelo. Tweeëntachtig woningen gingen in vlammen op voordat de staatse soldaten terugkeerden naar Lochem.
Vele bendeleden van de beruchte “Almeloosche Struikrovers” sneuvelden in deze strijd en daardoor zijn verschillende verstopplaatsen (Roversnesten) geheim gebleven en nooit meer teruggevonden.
Nu blijkt een Geocacher een oud document te hebben gevonden met daarop de juiste coördinaten van een van zo’n “Roversnest”……..
Natuurlijk wil hij deze delen met mede Geocachers en doet dat bij deze.

During the Dutch war of Independence (1568-1648) there was a lot of plundering and robbing in the area of Twente. There are several stories about an army of geuzen who invade the monasteries and rob everything. But also the poorly paid Spanish soldiers were notorious.
In the city of Almelo and the surrounding area there was a gang of outlaws who attacked both geuzen as well as the Spanish soldiers. The money and treasures they stole were used to help and support the poor villagers and peasants in their living. The treasures and values that were stolen by the “Almeloosche outlaws” were hidden in the area, but never all in the same place. They hid their treasures in the different “Roversnests” in the area. This was done to prevent that if one outlaw was caught, the whole treasure would be in the hands of their enemies. The torture of the suspects during a questioning was daily business. This way they would not lose everything if someone would be talking.
In 1578 the state captain Gert van Balen en lieutenant Arent Brecke plundered the city of Almelo. Eighty-two houses were burned down before the state soldiers went back to Lochem.
Many members of the notorious “Almeloosche outlaws” didn’t survive that battle, and because of that some hiding places of the treasures were never found again.
But now it turns out that an Geocacher found an ancient document with the coordinates of one of these “Roversnests”................
And of course he wants to share this location with his fellow Geocachers.
